THE STORY
Krista, a visual artist, and Darrin, an accomplished welder and fabricator, explore mixed metal forms inspired by nature. Their collaboration metalworks have been showcased in juried and exhibition shows in Guelph and surrounding area; as well as featured in gallery shows at the Paula White Diamond Gallery in Waterloo, Ontario, the Meaford Hall in Meaford, Ontario, the Jackalope Gallery in Toronto, Ontario, and the showroom at the Guelph Art Gallery, Guelph, Ontario.
"I focus on the latter half of the cycle of life; from death comes new life. It’s an inexhaustible lust for the details in nature that I draw inspiration from; from Lions Bay to the Bay of Fundy I have hiked to sit under the trees and on the boulders that shape my peace. You can find sweeping tree silhouettes all along the Canadian shorelines that are home to an ever-changing delicate micro-ecosystem. Decaying or growing, Trees, soil, and the foundational rocks speak strongly to a subtle ever-changing landscape.

I love to play with shadows and layering for unique statement sculptures in the home, garden, or on the walls."
My pieces explore the cycle and symbiotic relationships within nature and work to capture a moment in time as erosion, climate change, and eco-tourism change the coastal landscape year over year. Fossilized skeletons, imprints of decaying leaves on rock, and decomposing trees become less and less part of our relationship with nature as manicured pathways through over-travelled wilderness threaten to upset the balance and continually erode the balance and beauty of nature.
